The Pies Descalzos Community School in the El Bosque neighborhood of Barranquilla, Colombia brings security and a sense of community back to the impoverished district of the city. The Pies Descalzos foundation has generously stepped in to inspire the next generation of residents by funding innovative schools. The foundation strives to create collaborative and innovative environments to foster growth and a sense of pride for one's community.
My design for the Pies Descalzos Community School in the El Bosque neighborhood of Barranquilla, Colombia takes the measure of inviting the public in to the next level. When the community is engaged through the design process users take ownership of the space. Through good design, architecture can facilitate social change for a more just and equitable world, through education.
